Spring
In English, the children will be using the story The Chickens Build a Wall to learn more about writing narrative. The children will continue to work on handwriting, sentence structure and spellings. Their writing outcomes will include a WANTED poster and a retelling of the story with innovation.We will move onto Coming Home, which tells the story of the Windrush Generation. Their outcomes will be writing in the style of recount.
After half term, in English, we will be looking at twists on traditional tales by reading The Wolf's Story: What Really Happened to Little Red Riding Hood. The outcome in their writing will be narrative. To finish this half term, the class will use a book linked to their second Design Technology topic (healthy eating), which is called Where Does My Food Come From.
In Maths, the children will cover the topics listed in the overview. If you would like to support your child at home in one of these areas, then please ask for the Calculation Policy.
This half term, the children will be learning about, then designing and building, a moving vehicle for their DT project. This is to 'help' the chickens (from the story above) to move bricks and tools to enable them to build a wall. They MUST keep the evil hedgehog out!
After half term, the second Design and Technology project will link to the school's Healthy Eating project. The children will design, make and evaluate a healthy vegetarian salad for Ms White to taste.
For Science, the class have a STEM project to complete. This is based on catapults. During the project, the children will learn about, design, build, and test their own catapult. After half term, the children begin to learn about plants, and will grow their own.
For Geography, the children will be widening their knowledge on where their live, by studying more of the United Kingdom. For example, they will focus on four different locations around the United Kingdom (a beach, a woodland, a mountain, and rivers).
The artist being studied this term is Escher. The outcome of this topic will be printing repeated patterns to match the style of the artist.
